The Future - John's comments.

As the person who has seen Hayfield grow over the past 35 years from a tidy little riding school to become nationally recognised (by the BEF.) as one of the UK's finest I understand that it is time for Hayfield to be rebuilt to become finer than ever.

Working with the consortium to whom I have sold we will rebuild as fine an equestrian centre as there is anywhere in Europe. Fittingly, it will be relocated in the fields which have already seen generations of riders grow up and compete in the Hayfield annual Gymkhana. Planning permission in principal has already been approved although we are mindful also that Rome wasn't built in a day!

At Hayfield it is "service as usual" for existing clients plus added bonuses such as better horses to ride as we gear up preparing for the changeover. The intention is not to move the bulldozers in to knock the old centre down until the last lick of paint has dried on the new facility. In the mean time, my job is to further improve our horse stocks and then I get to go shopping to buy the very best of everything needed regardless of where in the world we find it. Who benefits? Well of course the clients and staff, but also and most importantly the horses and ponies whom we all love.

The new centre will be run by our present directors and staff plus some new instructors with the experience and skills and we will be recruiting in due course. My role will be that of consultant to the Mc Kenzie Club which will leave me more time to return to teaching riders who compete on the eventing scene and teaching clinics abroad in the winter. Additionally I have plans to create "The Gatherings" which will be amazing short breaks and holidays which will raise funds to support and sponsor young riders as we progress developing the next phase - Hayfield International.
